The process relates to the production of a bone free raw meat product and is particularly suited to removal of the meat from chicken bones or edible meat portions from other animals. Carcass portions to be processed are first fed to a pre breaker 9 where the meat and bone are moved axially and engaged by blades which chop or break the carcass into particle size to pass through three quarter inch openings. The chopped portions are then reduced by disintegrator 11 to pass through quarter inch openings. The meat bone mix is then passed through a helical conveyor 14 during which the meat still adhering to the bones is scrubbed off. The mixture of meat and bones is delivered to a mixing vat 16 where a measured amount of water is added and the slurry is mixed by paddle 18. The thoroughly mixed slurry is then pumped into a centrifuge 27 which deposits two layers one of bone and the other of meat and water. Bones are discharged through pipe 31 and meat and liquid through pipe 33. Various other arrangements of suitable equipment are shown and examples of treatment of different kinds of meat are given.
