Methods and apparatus are described herein for analysing petroleum's, feedstocks, intermediates and resulting products. A Flash Differential Scanning Calorimetry (FDSC) chip sensor is used to perform a plurality of temperature ramps on a sample of petroleum, feedstock, intermediate or resulting product, the plurality of temperature ramps comprising more than 200 temperature ramps, in order to generate a plurality of fingerprint curves for the sample, each fingerprint curve representing one or more of changes to chemical and/or physical properties of the sample. Methods and apparatus are also described herein comprising an array of chip sensors so that a plurality of samples may be tested and analysed at the same time. The plurality of fingerprint curves generated for each sample may be used for quality control purposes and/or to value the petroleum, feedstock, intermediate or resulting product. In addition, the plurality of fingerprint curves generated for each sample may be correlated with known techniques to identify the properties of the petroleum, feedstock, intermediate or resulting product.
