An example of such an event is a usage session during which an aerosol is generated. The aerosol-generating device comprises an indicator configured to indicate progress of the event as a sequence of 1st to nth different indication states, n being a number equal to or greater than 7, and a controller configured to monitor progress of the event, and to control the indicator to indicate in an indication state representative of the progress of the event. Progress of the event is both determined and displayed to the user.
