Patent 568693 Disclosed is a soft natural intestine casing obtained by a method comprising: treating a natural intestine casing in an alkaline aqueous solution at a temperature from 3 to 40 degrees Celsius and pH from 11 to 13 for at least one day and not more than four weeks wherein the natural intestine casing contains ornithine in the range from 0.05 to 0.5% by mass relative to the total amino acid content, if a hydrolysate of a protein and peptides contained in the natural intestine casing is subjected to amino acid analysis. Further disclosed is a processed meat product obtained by stuffing meat past into the casing described above.
