Nasal disinfection composition

A nasal disinfection composition comprising an alkali salt of a fatty acid is provided. Preferably the fatty acid is a triglyceride derived from coconut oil, olive oil or palm oil, and the alkali salt is preferably a sodium or potassium salt. The composition may also comprise an alcohol, and/or antiviral agent and/or antibacterial agent. Preferably the composition further comprises gelatin, pectin and carboxymethylcellulose wherein each of the gelatin, pectin and carboxymethylcellulose are all at 0.1 to 33.33 % w/v. The composition may also comprise at least one polyethylene glycol, and/or ethyl lauroyl arginate, and/or methyl cellulose. The composition may be in the form of a liquid spray, viscous liquid, or powder. The nasal disinfection as herein defined is preferably instilled into the nose, nasopharynx, and upper airway to temporarily reduce viral load and thus reduced the risk of transmission, particularly reduce the viral load and transmission of SARS-CoV-2.
