The unit comprises generally a chamber 13 air supply duct 14 spray nozzle 15 and agglomerating powder entrainment assembly 17 a product discharge means 19 and a fines separation system 21. In operation heated air is supplied through duct 14 while the liquid dispersion from tank 22 is sprayed through nozzle 15. An agglomerating powder from hopper 31 is pumped through conduit 33 arid discharged from nozzle 35 to impinge upon the cone shaped spray of droplets of the liquid dispersion issuing from nozzle 15 -. This produces rapid evaporation of the droplets and the resultant dried particles are concurrently agglomerated and entrained with the agglomerating powder. This falls to collecting chamber 37. Fines are withdrawn through pipe 43 to a cyclone separator 45 and may be recycled with the agglomerating powder.
