Filtering. - In drying milk &c. to form a powder by spraying the milk through nozzles 3 at the top of a chamber 1 supplied with heated filtered air from a trunk 5 and annular chamber 4, the bulk of the dried material settles in hoppers 2, and the remainder is separated in bag filters arranged so that the separated material is discharged into the same hoppers. The filters 6 are arranged in chambers 7 connected by a valve 8 either to a trunk 11 leading to the vacuum side of a centrifugal pump or to a trunk 9 leading to the pressure side of the pump. The filters are shaken by mechanism brought into operation when they are connected to the pressure trunk 9.
