The obtained permeate is concentrated, lactose is removed from the concentrated permeate and the resultant permeate is dried. Prior to drying the permeate may be mixed with a product formed from whey protein in which β-loctoglobulin has been reduced. The resultant permeate may be incorporated into a formulated milk composition for infants as an ingredient to increase the non-protein nitrogen compounds to a non-protein nitrogen compound content analogous to human milk.
