In an embodiment, a partially transparent virtual overlay is generated and rendered on a display of the device on top of a user interface. Finger-written characters or character strings are received through the virtual overlay via a touch-screen of the device. The recognized characters or character strings are displayed in an input field of the user interface, such that the characters or character strings are visible through the partially transparent virtual overlay.
