The invention discloses a tomato phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase as well as a coding gene and application thereof. The protein provided in the invention is as shown in (a) or (b): (a) a protein consisting of an amino acid sequence as shown in the first sequence in a sequence table; and (b) a protein with the activity of the phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase derived from the first sequence, wherein the amino acid sequence of the first sequence is substituted and/or deleted and/or added through one or more amino acid residues. The invention aims to improve the ability of the tomato to adapt abiotic stress; in combination with the auxiliary breeding research of gene engineering and the C4 metabolic key gene ppc of the overexpressed tomato, the tomato phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase improves the adaptability of the tomato to the abiotic stress, enhances the photosynthetic efficiency of the tomato, provides scientific evidences for innovating an improvement method of tomato germ plasm and quickening the progress of tomato selection breeding and offers important technical and theoretic supports to high photosynthetic efficiency transgene breeding of horticultural crops, such as tomato, and the like.
