The present inventors developed methodology and compositions for pouring liquid hydrogel directly into a horticulture plug tray, wherein the drainage holes are temporarily blocked or masked, thereby permitting the liquid hydrogel to set into a gel without leakage. Once the liquid hydrogel has cooled and set, the present methodology and compositions restore the drainage holes for plant growth and development.
