The present invention further relates to chicory plants comprising the present dominant resistance gene, seeds and plant parts thereof and to methods for providing or identifying the present chicory plants. Specifically, the present invention relates to a dominant resistance gene capable of providing tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV) resistance in chicory, wherein the resistance gene encodes a protein comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID No. 3, or wherein the resistance gene comprises the cDNA sequence of SEQ ID No. 2 or SEQ ID No. 5 or wherein the resistance gene is comprised in the genomic sequence of SEQ ID No. 1.
