The present disclosure further relates to a coating composition and coated plant comprising the coating composition. The present disclosure also provides a method of forming a spray dried composition comprising contacting a liquid composition with a heated gas, wherein the liquid composition comprises water, a nitrogen fixing bacteria, a bulking agent, a desiccation protectant, an antioxidant, and a coating agent. The liquid composition is introduced into a chamber through a nozzle and dried in the chamber to provide a spray dried composition. The spray dried composition disclosed herein can maintain the viability of the nitrogen fixing bacteria for improved shelf stability.
