In one aspect, the disclosed compounds contain a repeating polysaccharide unit and a lipid linked to the polysaccharide either by an ester bond or a phosphodiester bond. In another aspect, the disclosed compounds and methods are effective against a variety of tumor types through the mechanism of tumor capillary hemorrhage and do not cause systemic side effects such as, for example, antibody-mediated immune responses in subjects.
