In one alternative, the invention is based on a decreased expression of heat stress transcription factor B2a (HSFB2a) protein in plants to enhance, increase and/or promote cleistogamy. The invention provides genetic constructs for the expression of HSFB2a in plants and transgenic plant cells and plants comprising the constructs of the invention.
