The invention relates to preserving, or increasing the short-term shelf-life of bulk wet plant based or plant derived biomass materials or products susceptible to spoilage due to microbial growth. In particular, the present invention has been developed for the prolonging of the food-grade shelf life of warm wet biomass feedstock such as brewers spent grain to enable the transport from a brewery to downstream processing facility. In one embodiment this could be a renewable electric-powered heater jacket that maintains a specific range of conditions, made from a particular robust insulating composite material. However, it will be appreciated that the invention is not limited to these particular fields of use.
