The dual lid system can include a first lid configured to allow waste to enter a crushing assembly before being transferred to a composting assembly; a second lid configured to allow waste to bypass the crushing assembly and enter the composting assembly directly; and a control unit configured to receive input from a user or an algorithm to determine which of the first or second lids should be opened based on the type of waste being processed.
