Also disclosed are methods and systems for making the biochar compositions, and methods for using the biochar compositions. This method involves providing an aquaculture system comprising fish, water with carbon and nitrogen, and live microorganisms, where the aquaculture system produces aquaculture waste. The method further involves filtering the aquaculture waste to produce an aquaculture waste filtrate comprising live microorganisms and contacting a biochar with the aquaculture waste filtrate under conditions effective to infuse the biochar with components of the aquaculture waste filtrate to produce a biochar composition.
