A method (200) for generating a culinary knowledge base comprises steps of determining (210) user (140) actions during preparation of a dish; determining (205, 215) a first cooking recipe, the first cooking recipe comprising preparation steps which are similar to the user (140) actions; generating (220) a second cooking recipe, the second cooking recipe comprising preparation steps that match the user's (140) actions for preparing said dish; and storing (230) the second cooking recipe as a variant of the first cooking recipe.
