The current invention relates to a method for producing a protein-containing composition from a fermentation broth, wherein the method comprises (a) a separation step, (b) a first filtration step, (c) an optional conditioning step, and (d) an optional final filtration step. The current invention further relates to a protein-containing composition comprising inert components; wherein the inert components are derived from a microbiological fermentation; wherein the inert components comprise components with a molecular weight of from 40 kDa or higher; and wherein the protein-containing composition comprises a protein of interest, preferably a recombinant protein of interest. The current invention further relates to a protein-containing composition comprising a protein of interest, and melanin in a ratio 1% (w/w) or higher relative to the amount of the protein of interest. In some specific aspects of the invention the protein-containing composition is an agrochemical composition and the protein of interest comprises at least one VHH antibody.
