A conferencing system terminal device manages electronic communications during videoconferences while operating in a do not disturb mode. The system detects a communication device in contact with remote devices engaged in the videoconference. The system receives electronic communications and determines their relevance to the videoconference subject matter. If relevant, the system temporarily overrides the do not disturb mode to present the communication on the user interface. This ensures important messages are surfaced without unnecessary interruptions, maintaining focus on the videoconference while allowing responsive engagement.
