A strain of Bacillus haynesii (B. haynesii NRRL B-41327) has been discovered to have a surprisingly high level of antifungal activity. In vitro fungicidal experiments show that when grown in the presence of White mold (Sclerotium rolfsii), Fusarium oxysporum, or Aspergillus niger, the strain completely inhibits the growth of the fungus. Accordingly, compositions including B. haynesii NRRL B-41327 are provided for use in methods for controlling pathogen damage to plants. Compositions including the B. haynesii strain can be seed-applied, foliage-applied, used in-furrow, applied to soil or growth medium surrounding a plant, or applied on plant tips or roots to grow along with plants to protect from pathogens and enhance growth and productivity in the presence of plant pathogens.
