In particular, the invention relates to genetically modified and/or adapted non-human metazoan cell lines to grow in conditions appropriate for cell cultivation on a large scale suitable for industrial applications, in serum-free and protein-free media. The invention further relates to the use of these non-human metazoan cell lines as expression systems for recombinant protein production and/or as a consumable product for human and/or animal use.
