This application discloses a composition comprising at least one plant extract, at least one weak acid, an oligosaccharide and an amino acid or an amino acid source for increasing nutrient use efficiency and abiotic stress tolerance. This application further discloses method for regulating expression of genes and pathways associated with nutrient use efficiency, cellular/subcellular uptake, long-distance transport of essential resources and abiotic stress tolerance comprising applying the agrochemical composition. The present application discloses agricultural treatments and methods that induce component-driven, temporally staged, and tissue-specific molecular reprogramming in plants, resulting in enhanced nutrient use efficiency, improved nitrogen status and nitrogen content, coordinated transporter and hormonal regulation, increased stress resilience without sustained growth penalty, and improved plant growth and performance.
