The invention belongs to the technical field of agricultural mechanization, and particularly relates to a tomato lateral branch positioning and identifying method which comprises the following steps: S1, manually sleeving a tomato stem with a positioning color ring; s2, shooting an image of the tomato plant, and selecting an area which presents a positioning color ring in the vertical direction as a main stem; s3, after the main stem is positioned, selecting a main stem positioning color ring position to stretch out an induction rod, and enabling the induction rod to move upwards or downwards along the main stem; s4, when the induction rod induces the resistance exceeding the preset value in the moving direction, determining that the position is a lateral branch; and S5, storing all the identified lateral branch position information for subsequent use. An image processing algorithm is adopted, the positions of the main stems and the lateral branches of the tomato plants can be automatically recognized, excessive manual participation is not needed, the working efficiency and accuracy are improved, and convenience is provided for obtaining the position information of the lateral branches of the tomatoes.
