The cultivation system is characterized in that the root compartment comprise a top cover member, forming an upper boundary of the root compartment interior, wherein the top cover member is elongate in the longitudinal direction, and wherein the top cover member is configured to be suspended above the root portions in the absence of support structures underneath the top cover member.
