As the world shifts towards plant-based sources of protein, we will need to increase production to meet demand without reducing the supply of fresh produce. Controlled environment agriculture (CEA), in the form of greenhouse or vertical farming integrations, could provide an appropriate solution to meet this demand. However, at LettUs Grow we believe in careful and thoughtful innovation. Making sure that we don’t deliver a high-tech solution just for the sake of a high-tech solution is vital. To properly utilize CEA in the protein transition imperative, we must carefully consider: the technology chosen; the crops grown; the stages of growth; and the wider economic, environmental and social model behind a controlled environment solution.

About Lilly ManzoniLilly Manzoni is Head of Research & Development at LettUs Grow, where she makes sure that the company invests in work that will be most the valuable for the development of the industry and for the good of the planet.

Lilly is an aerosol chemist, and as part of the original team, was a key figure in the design of our innovative aeroponic technology & conducts crucial research studying aerosol root interactions.

Lilly is a passionate advocate for representation and inclusion in the STEM sector.

About LettUs GrowLettUs Grow is an indoor farming technology provider based in Bristol, UK. We believe that careful innovation in farming can make the world a better place. Our ultrasonic aeroponic irrigation systems allow farmers to grow up to twice as fast as hydroponics, while using zero soil, zero pesticides, as well as less water and fertiliser than in outdoor farming.

Our DROP & GROW container farm allows anyone to grow local, sustainable food 365 days of the year, whilst our Aeroponic Rolling Benches are set to bring the benefits of aeroponics to hectare-scale greenhouses and vertical farms.

Lilly Manzoni is speaker at the 2022 edition of the Vertical Farming Conference / Protein Transition Conference, both part of the Agrifood Innovation Event.
