The invention discloses a multi-stage food nutrition evaluation method and system. The method comprises the following steps: acquiring a food image; segmenting the food image to obtain a food region segmentation map; performing type identification on the food in the food region segmentation map to obtain a food type; estimating the food volume of each type of food, determining the food density according to the food type, and obtaining the mass of each type of food according to the food volume and the food density; determining the nutrient content of each gram of each type of food according to the food type, and obtaining the total content of each nutrient according to the mass of each type of food. Performing image segmentation on the food image, and identifying and acquiring food type information; the mass of each kind of food is obtained through food quantity estimation; finally, the total content of each nutrient component is obtained through nutrient content calculation, prediction is conducted in a multi-stage mode, and the detection precision is improved.
