The Finca La Estacada, Fontana and La Soledad, wineries from the D.O. Uclés, have received their first WfCP (Wineries for Climate Protection) certificates. AENOR certifies in accordance with a new scheme drawn up by the Spanish Wine Federation. These certificates attest to the environmental sustainability of wine cellars in four different areas: greenhouse gas reduction, water management, waste reduction and energy efficiency and renewable energy.

After successfully completing an independent third-party audit made by AENOR, they has received the diplomas in the framework of the Second Technical Conference on Disclosure 'Carbon Footprint and sustainability in the wine sector' held last week at the School of Vine in Madrid.

Carbon footprint

Also, AENOR has granted the Carbon Footprint certificate to these three wineries and one more belonging to the DO Uclés, Bodegas La Estación. It is a title that proves the veracity of the calculation of the set of emissions of greenhouse gases as a result of their activities during 2015.

Positive effects on exports

The seal of wineries that care for the environment is being key to the region's wine sales abroad, commented Lola Núñez, manager of DO Uclés. In the 'Vino, Cultura y Gastronomía' space of Hoy por Hoy Tarancón, Núñez has made a balance of these certificates and of the development of the conference in which teachers Carlos Rad, from the University of Burgos, and Almudena Gómez Ramos, from The University of Valladolid, in addition to Jorge Miñón, agricultural engineer, Javier Carroquino, of the University of Zaragoza; José Magro, Environment Manager of AENOR and Maribel Hernández, Quality Department of Bodegas Fontana.
