Silage of stems of grape for feeding the prototype

B.2. Development of industrial prototype for residue pre-treatment

The grape harvest started a few weeks ago in the Ucles region. At Bodegas Fontana, in Fuente de Pedro Naharro (Cuenca), we have begun to ensile grape stems in order to have enough residue stored to operate the prototype for at least 6 months.

The storage is also required because the grape harvest generates more residues than the prototype can manage, since it doesn't have the capacity of an industrial plant.

Silage of stems of grape is in a ditch on Bodegas Fontana's property. The ditch has been covered with plastic and is fed grape stems each day; these are spread and compacted with a tractor.  This process is similar to that used for a livestock maize forage silo.
