SOLID LUBRICATION IS AN ALTERNATIVE TO HYDROCARBON OIL BASED CUTTING FLUID IN TURNING PROCESS.ABSTRACTMy Invention “SOLID LUBRICATION IS AN ALTERNATIVE TO HYDROCARBON OIL BASED CUTTING FLUID IN TURNING PROCESS “ In Indian manufacturing industry, machining process and its environmental effect analysis are very important for enhancement of sustainability analysis. In turning process, the heat is generated due to friction, and this heat can be removed by the application of cutting fluid. The cutting fluid serves as an agent to cool the cutting tool the cutting tool and lubricates between the tool-chip and tool-work piece interface, but it also produces environmental pollution and other operator health issues. Hence, various research works are carried out to achieve sustainable machining by using development of new coated tools, Minimum Quantity Lubrication (MQL) and cryogenic machining. It has been observed that in recent times some research works are focused with different types of textured surface on turning cutting tool inserts either on rake or flank surfaces for improvement of tribological properties and sustainability improvement. This textured surfaces are also known as micro groove, micro pool, self-lubricating, self-cooling cutting inserts filled with solid lubricant which has been found. The application of solid lubricant on textured surface is observed to provide lubrication effect on rake or flank faces. The achievement of sustainability in machining process, researchers and practioners approached MQL, cryogenic machining, air/gas cooled machining and vegetable based cutting fluid. However, the above methods have some limitations which include poor thermal stability in vegetable oil, embrittlement of work piece in cryogenic machining and special Dewar equipment needed for MQL. Hence, recently implemented sustainability methodology on textured surface of cutting tool insert either flank or rake face with solid lubrication for achieving reduction of cutting forces, cutting zone temperature, friction co-efficient and anti-adhesion property enhancement. Textured inserts with solid lubrication leads to sustainability in manufacturing. It is used to find alternative green dielectric fluid, implementation of ISO 14000 for environmental Management standards and reduce operator health issues and followed by environmental issues.
