There are several assessment methods/ framework to measure sustainability performance of crude palm oil production but each of these existing methods has its weaknesses, in terms of comprehensiveness, selection of indicators, measurability, inclusiveness and transparency. There is a need of a holistic approach using a comprehensive sustainability assessment framework to measure sustainability performance of the crude palm oil supply chain. The Palm Oil Sustainability Assessment (POSA) framework applies multi-criteria hierarchical analysis using higher performance indicators (HPI), key performance indicators (KPI) and Performance Measures (PM) to assess the triple bottom line objectives i.e. environment, economic and social sustainability objectives. The PMs are rated from 1-5 based on the rating criteria and weight is applied on each PM to differentiate the level of importance of each PM. All PMs scores are then aggregated into KPIs, all KPIs are aggregated into HPIs, all HPIs are aggregated into sustainability objectives, and then all sustainability objectives are aggregated into the overall sustainability performance. The POSA framework including the HPIs, KPIs, PMs, the PMs ranking criteria, their weight and sample of calculations are listed in below in The POSA Framework & Scoring Sample
