The Australasian Institute of Packaging (AIP) is celebrating the inaugural World Packaging Day, which will be held each year on the 6th of September.
The date was selected by the WPO World Packaging Organisation for World Packaging Day as it celebrates the foundation day of the global association.
Here are the reasons why the AIP says we should celebrate World Packaging Day:
Packaging plays a fundamental and functional role to contain, protect, preserve and transport a product all the way through the value chain to the consumer in the household.
Packaging is designed to drive emotional connection to a product, strengthen brand loyalty, communicate to consumers, create brand loyalty and help make products stand out on-shelf.
Save Food Packaging that is designed intuitively at the start, plays an integral role to minimise food loss and waste across a value chain, all the while protecting the product and offering the lowest environmental impact.
Sustainable Packaging is designed to offer the lowest environmental impact, while maintaining its fit-for-purpose and functional requirements. Sustainable Packaging can take the form of recyclable or reusable packs, involve reducing material and resources, build in recycled content, move to mono material, ensure that it can be recycled at end of life, become circular by design and more.
Accessible & Inclusive Packaging is designed to ensure that EVERYONE can open, close, handle and grip their packaging. Accessible Packaging needs to be intuitive and truly understand the lived experience of those who have difficulty opening packaging.
Packaging plays a critical role in modern society.
