SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR DETECTING CROP LODGING

A system for detecting crop lodging areas (710) in a field. A camera (220, 302) mounted to an agricultural machine (300) (e.g., a combine harvester) captures images (702, 802) of a crop and the field and a computing system (200) determines attributes (708) of the crop and the field in the images (702, 802). The aforesaid two steps (steps 502, 504) can occur continuously as the machine (300) moves through a field. The determined attributes (708) of the crop and the field are shown on a display device (216) in a cabin (301) of the machine (300) so that an operator can visualize the crop and the field and areas affected by crop lodging in front of the machine. In some embodiments, the determined attributes (708) of the crop and the field are used as input for a controller (220, 230) of the machine (300) that can control operation of the machine according to the determined attributes (708) (step 512).
