There is provided a transdermal analyte concentration measurement system, comprising: a sensing element 40 configured to be placed beneath patient skin, wherein the sensing element is configured to sense one or more analytes and to generate a signal representative of an analyte concentration; a monolithic integrated circuit 30 containing: an integrated sensor signal acquisition unit 130 which receives and processes the signal from the sensing element 40, wherein the integrated sensor signal acquisition unit comprises a potentiostat and an analog to digital converter electrically connected to the potentiostat; an integrated communication unit 140 connected to the integrated sensor signal acquisition unit 130 which transmits data representative of said analyte concentration; and an integrated power management unit 120 connected to and providing power to the sensing element 40, the sensor signal acquisition unit 130, and the communication unit 140; and a transmitter 2, configured for operation outside of the body of the patient, connected by a wire 3 to the monolithic integrated circuit, said transmitter 2 providing power and receiving data from the monolithic integrated circuit 30 via the wire 3, and said wire 3 configured to cross from the skin surface into the patient.
