Sensor and method of operating a sensor

Fuente: Wipo "Sensorization"
An active sensor array comprising sensor element pixels 111-113 and read-out pixels 120; where pixel switching circuitry 115, (230, 240, Figs.3&4) selectively connects one or more sensor elements to read-out pixels thereby selecting a portion of a sensing area (102, Figs.1a-c). Each read-out pixel may comprise a sensor element. The read-out pixels may combine the outputs from the connected sense pixels. Controlling the sensor pixels connected to the readout pixel may create multiple overlapping measurement areas which can be used to determine the output from a single sense pixel thereby increasing the spatial resolution of the sensor. The sensor may operate in a high sensitivity and/or resolution first mode and a low sensitivity and/or resolution second mode by changing the sensing area size and the number of active read-out pixels in a sensing cycle. Each sensor element pixel may compensate for circuit differences between the readout and sense pixels by including a compensation element (e.g. capacitor etc.). The sensor may be a capacitive biometric skin fingerprint sensor (120, Figs.5a-b). The senser arrangement may reduce the number of connections required on the sensor.
