An apparatus, methods and systems for data collection in an industrial environment are disclosed. A monitoring system can include a data collector connected to data collection points on a plurality of industrial components, a data storage structured to store a plurality of noise patterns, wherein the data storage is organized in a hierarchical format with respect to noise patterns of similar industrial components, a data acquisition circuit structured to interpret detection values from collected data, a data analysis circuit structured to analyze the collected data and determine a measured noise pattern for an industrial component, and to determine an identified noise pattern in response to comparing stored noise patterns to the measured noise pattern, and a response circuit structured to adjust the plurality of stored noise patterns in response to the identified noise pattern.
