The present disclosure discloses methods and systems for forming a fault-tolerant federated distributed database system (100) that includes a plurality of globally distributed local agreement groups (106) each including a plurality of computing nodes (104). The method includes storing (402) data in each computing node in accordance with a temporal data model (200). a block corresponding to the temporal data model storing keys (210) and time value (208) and data reference value (206) corresponding to each key. Then, for each globally distributed local agreement group, blocks of corresponding computing nodes are updated (404), by updating state of corresponding keys simultaneously using a local agreement algorithm. Thereafter, for each globally distributed local agreement group (106), updated blocks are combined (406) to form a combined block of key edits, and which are then being agreed (408) upon based on a pre-defined range of time and keys, using a global distributed agreement algorithm.
