The present invention relates to a wireless communication system based on Internet of things (IoT) communication, and a position estimation method using the same. In accordance with the present invention, the wireless communication system includes: a base station transmitting a signal through a cellular network; a first IoT terminal connectable to the cellular network and a private network, periodically broadcasting a sync signal to a plurality of adjacent IoT terminals when receiving positioning request information from the base station, receiving RSSI information from a second IoT terminal, of which an RSSI value about a received signal is greater than a reference value, of the plurality of IoT terminals having received the sync signal, and calculating ranging information corresponding to the RSSI value received from the second IoT terminal; and an application server receiving the position information of the first IoT terminal and the ranging information of the second IoT terminal from the first IoT terminal through the cellular network to estimate a position of the second IoT terminal. In accordance with the present invention, a position of an IoT terminal connected with the private network can be estimated without GPS support through a dual mode IoT terminal supporting access to the cellular network and the private network. Moreover, in accordance with the present invention, when positioning is performed in the wireless communication system, compensation can be made for an issue about a performance deterioration in a wireless link quality due to an increasing distance from a gateway.
