Fecha de publicación: 01/10/2009 Fuente: WIPO "organic farming" The present invention relates to a method for identifying the origin of cotton fiber by determining a set of chemical properties of said cotton fiber wherein the set of chemical properties are ash content, moisture content, wax content and heavy metals content; determining a set of physical properties of said cotton fiber wherein the set of physical properties in the present invention are fiber length, fiber bundle strength, fiber maturity, fiber elongation, trash content, tensile strength, fiber uniformity and micronaire value; and correlating the obtained physical properties and chemical properties with the method of cultivation to identify the origin of said cotton fiber. The method of cultivation in the present invention is organic agricultural method or conventional agricultural method and the cotton fiber is organic cotton fiber having no pesticide content or convention cotton fiber preferably of the same variety. The present invention also discloses the use of the method of the present invention for the identification, segregation, authentification and/or certification of the organically grown cotton fiber from conventionally grown cotton fiber.
