PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shelf life improver for food having excellent bacteriostatic effect, not giving negative effect on food flavor, and suitable mainly for prepared food, in particular for cooked food; to provide food obtained by utilizing the shelf life improver for food; and to provide a method for improving shelf life of food: and as another version of the invention, to provide a shelf life improver for cooked food having excellent bacteriostatic effect and not giving negative effect on food flavor; to provide food containing the shelf life improver for cooked food; and to provide a method for improving shelf life of food comprising utilizing the shelf life improver for cooked food.SOLUTION: The shelf life improver for food contains malic acid and lactic acid as organic acid. The food is obtained by utilizing the shelf life improver for food. The method for improving shelf life of food comprises utilizing the shelf life improver for food.
