989,480. Insulating cable joints. RICESMYTHE INVESTMENTS Ltd. March 9, 1964, No. 9827/64. Heading H2E. In making a joint between two cables the cores of the cables are joined within a box 7 and sheaths 2 (or conduits for the cable) are sealed to the box through a structure which includes tubular members 4 at the ends of the sheaths secured thereto by organic adhesive. As shown the sheath is corrugated and provided with anti-corrosive material 3. A sealing ring as disclosed in Specification 234,863 is held in position between the member 4 and box 7 by a coupling member 16 secured by a split ring 17. A split ring 18 positionable in any of grooves 19 limits the movement of member 4. In a first alternative arrangement the members 4 and 16 engage directly by screw-threading (Fig. 2, not shown), and in a second alternative the box 7 engages the member 4 directly by screw threading, organic adhesive being disposed between the threads (Fig. 3, not shown). The members 4 (and box 7 if necessary) may be of split construction, may have engagement spigots, and may be of metal or insulating material. The members 4 may be attached away from the site of the joint.
