15,390. Rice, A. C. July 13. Caretakers for property left temporarily.-Relates to improvements in the coin-freed cycle stand described in Specification No. 2965, A.D. 1898, the main object being to provide means whereby the locking-pieces are automatically set to correspond to the checks or tickets. The cycle is supported in suitable jaws a pivoted on a slide a so that, when pressed back, they engage the orifice B of the case and grip the cycle. The slide a is held stationary by a notched lever i, Fig. 4, which engages a lug a on the slide, but, on placing a coin in the slot i, the coin falls down into a bucket i on the lever l and releases the slide a', the coin afterwards dropping into a suitable receptacle. On pressing the slide a' inwards against the action of a spring a, a check f, having suitably-arranged spaces f as shown in Fig. 8, which check is already in a carrier d connected with the slide a, presses backward several of a series of sliding rods e, the rods corresponding to the spaces f being left unaffected. Pins e on the rods e engage rods c pivoted to links l and connected to guide-rods b carried by pieces b pivoted at b, so that the movement of the rods e causes the rods c to slide on the rods b and depress the pieces b into engagement with projections a, on the slide a, thus locking the latter in position. The check f then falls down a shoot k, and is delivered to the owner, a second check being fed into the carrier d by the mechanism shown in Figs. 2 and 6. The checks are carried in a case g, and are pressed downwards by a spring g, so that, when the carrier d slides to and fro, arms g secured thereto operate an ejecting-device g and force the lowest check into a hopper h pivoted at h, the check lifting the hopper into the position shown by the dotted lines in Fig. 6. As the hopper falls into its normal position, suitable stops, which close the lower end of the hopper, are withdrawn, and the check falls into the carrier d. To release the cycle, the first check f is placed in a slot l in the head l of a plunger l, carried by a pivoted lever l controlled by the spring l, and the plunger is depressed so that the check presses downwards rods l connected to the pivoted links l, thus lifting the rods c and releasing the catches a. The rods corresponding to the spaces f are again unaffected. The slide a must be simultaneously pressed inwards to enable the plunger l to release the catches a. To prevent the plunger from being depressed when the stand is not in use, the lever l is engaged by a lever l, but is released by an arm l on the carrier d when the slide a' is actuated. In a modification, the check delivery mechanism is dispensed with, the owners being provided with private checks which they insert through a slot into the carrier d.10>8>5>2>1>1>2>3>2>7>5>4>1>1>1>2>1>1>2>3>1>3>3>1>1>1>1>8>3>2>1>3>1>1>
