2366. Rice, R. M. Feb. 6, 1904, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901]. Stop-gear. - An emergency stop-gear for at elastic-fluid turbine is shown in Fig. 5. The vertical shaft of the turbine runs in a bearing supplied with lubricating-fluid under pressure, and a branch pipe 41 from the lubricant-supply pipe admits the fluid under a piston 75 so that the piston is supported and keeps a weighted lever 32 in a raised position. If the pressure of lubricant falls below the required minimum, the weighted lever drops and moves the regulating-valve of the piston 60, which slides the cam 46 so that the nozzle valves are closed and the turbine stops.
