4312. Los Rice, C. de. Feb. 28. Forging.-A forging-machine of the general character of that shown in Specification No. 2054, A.D. 1897, suitable for producing projectiles, hollow billets for tubes, &c., has a bed A on which is a main shaft B carrying cams C, C and an eccentric D'. The blank P, shown as a projectile, is held between dies c, against a fixed die, while pierced by a plunger operated by the eccentric. The dies c are carried by slides C operated by toggle-links C from slides C' connected by toggle-links C to rocking blocks C operated by the cams C, C. The dies care moved inwards by a hand-lever C, rock-shaft C, and links C to hold the work, the cams C" being formed to operate the dies to first grip the work and then to hold them in that position during the piercing. The rear ends c' of the dies c are formed with a reduced aperture or internal shoulder to strip the blank from the plunger during its return stroke, the dies being sufficiently opened by the cams C to allow the blank to drop through the bed.13>10>7>8>13>12>6>5>3>13>12>
