23,497. Rice, G. W. Oct. 12. Brakes for cycles &c. The Figures show the application of the invention to a bicycle. A rod c, sliding in a guide in the steering-post, is secured in front to the ordinary brake rod d, and is formed at the rear into a loop o. A rod e connects this loop to a lever h, pivoted at i and connected by a rod h to a rim brake l which engages the rear wheel. On applying the front-wheel brake d by means of the usual hand-lever, the friction draws forward the brake shoe thereby actuating, through the rod c &c., the rim-brake on the rear wheel. A spring may be provided to return the lever h to its original position. In a modification, the rod c is connected by a chain to the rod h.1>
