Points and switches.-Relates to a switch stand for railway points and more particularly to means for locking the switch so that it cannot be operated by any unauthorized person. Fig. 2 shows a sectional elevation of the stand and Fig. 4 a perspective view of the base and the lower part of the standard. The standard 2 is mounted in the base part 1 so as to be free to oscillate therein and is connected at its lower end by a crank and rod 23 to the points. A sleeve 6, adapted to slide on the squared part of the standard, is provided with depending pieces 7 which, when the sleeve is depressed, fit into the recesses 5 in the base and lock the standard from rotation. The sleeve is operated by a toggle lever arrangement 8, 9. A portion of the standard is formed hollow and a lever 14 is pivotally mounted therein ; this lever is pressed inwards at its upper end by a spring 16 and is connected at its lower end to a bolt 12 which, when the sleeve is depressed, is shot into the recess 13. To release the sleeve, a key 18 is inserted through a hole in the sleeve and turned on the pin 20 so as to press the upper part of the lever 14 outwards and thus retract the bolt 12.
