Connecting uppers to insoles and soles. - A composite insole for a welted shoe comprises a sheet 6 of cork with no heel part, a similar sheet 4 of filling- material such as felt, a complete leather sole 1 channelled to form a lip 3, two leather binding-strips 7, and a leather toe-piece 10. The binding-strips, which do not reach the toe, and the two sheets 4, 6 are secured by the same row of stitches 5, and the leather sole 1 is then stuck to the sheet 4. The flaps of the binding-strips are then bent over the edges of the sole and sheets, and are stuck to the lip 3, and the toe-piece 10 is stuck to the toe. The heel end 13 of the sole may be covered with a removable heel cushion.
