A nonchemical method of treating an infestation of varroa mite in a beehive involves isolating one of the frames together with the queen from the remainder of the frames using a screen 1 which is suspended between a pair of adjacent frames by a suspension rail 5. A transparent flap 10 provides a top cover for the isolated compartment. Suitably sized apertures 4 are provided in the screen 1 through which the worker honeybees can pass freely. After a period of isolation, when the honeybee larvae have hatched from the remainder of the frames, the isolated frame is removed from the hive together with the developing honeybee larvae and varroa larvae, and after returning the queen to the hive, the removed frame is sterilised to destroy the varroa mite larvae.
