The shift from landraces to single-genotype varieties led to immediate gains in yield and quality, and over the past century, single-genotype crops have been highly successful. Nonetheless, several studies suggest that variety mixtures (i.e. two or more consciously selected genotypes of the same crop grown together) may offer advantages over single-genotype varieties.PMID:41305887 | DOI:10.1016/j.molp.2025.11.008
